Entertaiment is a word that encompasses many forms of entertainment. According to Bates and Ferri (2010), entertainment is understood objectively, involves communication, offers pleasure from an external stimulus, requires audience participation and occurs in a passive form.
It’s also a way for individuals to fulfill their societal needs. The SU2C Entertainment Initiative brings together world-class scientists from various institutions to accelerate the pace of cancer research and to translate scientific breakthroughs into major advances in treatment.
The word “entertainment” is derived from the Latin intertenere, which means to hold inside; the prefix inter means within and the suffix -ten is related to the Indo-European root ten, meaning stretch. Something that affords pleasure, diversion, or amusement: a daily crossword puzzle is an excellent source of entertainment for many people.
